ANTOINETTE BATTISTE
My passion for this work stems from my personal experience as the first person in my family to graduate from college. I was fortunate to have a counselor who recognized my academic potential and encouraged me to seek challenging educational opportunities. That turning point was the beginning of my personal journey from hometown Compton, CA to The Branson School in Marin County (then a boarding school) and on to Stanford University. I “traveled the journey” as a parent and launched my son to college in 2009 and graduate school in 2013.
As a volunteer leader in the nonprofit sector, I continued my quest to make a meaningful contribution to my community. My roles as Interim Executive Director and six year member of the Board of Directors for Foundation for a College Education (FCE) in East Palo Alto, provided an opportunity to work directly with low income and students of color pursuing and receiving an undergraduate degree through their College Bound and College Success Programs. I also served on the Board of Directors for the YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula for 12 years – five of them as president.
Other leadership roles have included:
My commitment to continuing professional development includes attending national, regional and local conferences and workshops. I also visit colleges and universities throughout the United States.
My professional memberships include: Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA Professional Member), Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), Western Association of College Admissions Counselors (WACAC), Southern Association of College Admissions Counselors (SACAC), National College Access Network (NCAN), Santa Clara County Alliance of Black Educators (SCCABE), National Association of Black School Educators (NABSE), and Center for Excellence in Nonprofits (CEN). I am a member of Rho Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and serve on the Board of Directors for the Ivy and Pearls Foundation. I am also a founding member of the YWCA Donor Advised Fund Committee of the Women’s Foundation of California.
I received an AB in Psychology and African & African-American Studies from Stanford University and an MBA in Information Systems from Golden Gate University. I also received a Specialized Certificate in College Counseling from UC San Diego Extension.
